Yasan Chang

21-year-old Yasan Chang was born of Jamaican parents. Her father being from St. Elizabeth and her mother being from Christiana, makes her a first generation American that was born and raised in Philadelphia.

Yasan loves to sing, write, dance and learning about the environment along with creative ways we as a people can live more sustainably. She currently attends the Community College of Philadelphia with a major in Environmental Science. If she wins Miss Caribbean US 2022 -2023, she will use her social media platforms as well as her presence in schools, housing shelters and foster homes to teach and encourage children and young adults the importance of knowing your worth, and how to actively change your perspective in order to make what feels impossible possible regardless of our beginnings.

She strongly believes that we do not have to remain as victims in toxic environments nor to whatever statistics tell us that we are or will be. She believes that we can change our environment and our circumstances despite our socioeconomic backgrounds, but it starts with shifting the perspective of how we view life and how we view ourselves.

THE NATIONAL FLAG OF JAMAICA

The flag of Jamaica was adopted on 6 August 1962 (Jamaican Independence Day), the country having gained independence from the British-protected Federation of the West Indies. The flag consists of a gold saltire, which divides the flag into four sections: two of them green (top and bottom) and two black (hoist and fly).[2][3] It is currently the only national flag that does not contain a shade of the colors red, white, or blue.
